Section of map showing countryside around OckbrookThe Royal Oak is the hub and starting point for some lovely walks in the surrounding countryside of Derbyshire and the Peak District. Popular walks and trails used include the Erewash part of the Midshires Way, which links the Ridgeway National Trail in the south with the Trans-Pennine Way in the north (though we don't recommend you attempt its full 225 miles!).

Call into the pub for guides and directions for these walks, and plan in a welcoming meal and drinks for your successful return!

The Lewis Wilson Memorial Walk

6 miles (approx 3-3½ hours)

Cover of the guide to the Lewis Wilson WalkStart: The Royal Oak, Green Lane Ockbrook
Time: Allow 3½ hours
O/S Map: Pathfinder Series - Nottingham (South West) SK 43/53
Type of walk: Through undulating farmland with some steep inclines

This lovely walk takes you through farmland, woods and open country, and offers splendid views over the Derwent and Trent valleys.

Although you can make this walk at any time of the year, the Royal Oak organises a special occasion on the first Sunday in June, in memory of Lewis Wilson.

Guide and directions available at the Royal Oak.

Where we are and how to find us

The Royal Oak is situated on Green Lane in Ockbrook.

Heading east out of Derby on the A52 (Brian Clough Way) take the Ockbrook exit after around 4 miles (just after the Shell garage). At the end of the slip road turn left into Victoria Avenue. Follow this past the Queens Head pub and turn left at the T junction. The Royal Oak is in a couple of hundred yards on the left.
